# Get your license key

> Request the license key that activates your SunDevs product.

Self-hosted SunDevs products need a license key to start. You request it on our Discord server after purchasing.

    Buy the product from any [supported marketplace](/where-to-buy) and download the files.

  <Step title="Join the SunDevs Discord">
    Join the server at [go.sundevs.net/discord](https://go.sundevs.net/discord).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to the #premium channel">
    Open the **#premium** channel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Request your license">
    Click the **Request License** button in the embedded message. A developer will send you your license key shortly.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your key">
    Keep the key safe. You'll need it during setup.
  </Step>

## Using the key

For Java-based products (such as SunLicense and SunGuard), create a file called `license.txt` next to `server.jar` and paste your key into it before starting the server.

  Managed Hosting plans also require a valid license key.
